During Breast Cancer Awareness Month – October – Family Medicine Center hosted its annual “Check Ya Bubbies” 3D mammography special – which ended the month with one happy raffle winner. Mitzie Chipman-Neely was presented with $200 in gift certificates to Latitudes or any Titan Hospitality restaurant.

“The special brought in hundreds of patients. The first 100 patients received beautiful, large, pink-ribbon giftboxes filled with goodies,” said Melanie Obregon, Radiology Department Supervisor at Family Medicine Center.

“Plus, every patient who scheduled a mammogram in October was entered into the raffle.”

The campaign raised awareness of the prevalence of breast cancer in The Bahamas and encouraged women to start screening at age 40. It also educated women about the significant benefits of advanced 3D mammography vs. traditional 2D mammography. Some of those benefits include greater precision and clarity making an earlier, more accurate diagnosis possible and reducing callbacks.

Family Medicine Center recently announced the availability of state-of-the-art Genius 3D Mammography at its Rock Sound clinic in Eleuthera. 3D mammography has been available for years at Family Medicine Center’s primary facility on Blake Road, Nassau – now women in Eleuthera will have the same easy access to superior breast imaging services.

As an added bonus, Family Medicine Center is running an extended offer: Free Mammogram (for women 40 and older) when signing up for NHI and booking an annual physical before January 2024.
Early detection remains a critical factor in the battle against breast cancer, and 3D mammography empowers our medical team to identify potential issues at their earliest stages. This can significantly improve treatment outcomes and increase the chances of successful recovery for our patients.

Unlike traditional 2D mammography, 3D mammography captures multiple images of the breast from various angles, creating a more detailed and comprehensive view. This innovation allows the detection of abnormalities with greater accuracy, reducing the likelihood of false positives and unnecessary follow-up procedures.

Family Medicine Center encourages all individuals to schedule their 3D mammography appointments at either of our locations. Early detection is a powerful tool in the fight against breast cancer, and our dedicated team is committed to providing the highest standard of care to our community.
